Anonymous Students to Erect 9/11 Memorial
"Our Grief is Not a Cry for War"

On the two-year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, University of Maryland students will remember victims of terrorism with a cry for peace.
Despite two years of bloody conflict, Americans are not any safer now than we were before Bush's "war on terror."
Contrary to the stated goals of disarmament, liberation, and human rights, the wars and occupation have reinvigorated the dangerous arms race and left Iraqis' human and civil rights as insecure now as under Sadam Hussein's regime. Furthermore, in the past two years, as Americans we have seen our own human and civil rights come under attack in the name of combating terrorism - the Patriot Act gave the government new spying powers on its own citizens, arbitrary race-based arrests and secret detentions have increased, high-ranking government officials admitted that the United States tortures detainees.
Two years later, al Qaeda is alive, well, and still killing; Americans die almost daily in acts of war and terror; and we have yet to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. None of the stated goals of the war have been accomplished despite massive death tolls on all sides.
Two years later, we remember 9/11 victims in the best way possible: with a call for peace so that this tragedy will not be repeated. So, on Thursday, September 11, 2003, students will peacefully and artistically remember the 9/11 attacks. A media contact will send a follow-up message on location and content of the memorial.
