At least 370 women have disappeared in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico -- just across the border from El Paso, TX -- over the last ten years. Most of these young women and girls were held captive, raped, mutilated and tortured before being strangled or beaten to death.
Amnesty International is holding a vigil on the steps of Mckeldin Library
from 5-6pm on Thursday, 26 February. Join us in lighting a candel, making
a paper flower/funeral wreath, sharing thoughts or poetry, and remembering
these women. Two mothers of murdered women are expected to arrive at
5:30. For more information, or if you'd like to say something during
the vigil, email
aiumcp@yahoo.com. We will have actions and other
opportunities to get involved. Fair Trade Coffee will be there with
free coffee, too. We hope you join us for this event.
Co-sponsored by Amnesty International UMCP, Students And Workers Unite, and Fair Trade Advocacy Club
